Quick AnswerRAKEZ license renewal in 2026: from AED 5,999 for a zero-visa licence, the AED 50 per day late penalty, documents, Portal 360 steps and multi-year options.
RAKEZ license renewal in 2026 costs AED 5,999 for a zero-visa licence on the Noble Core rate card, AED 14,000 with one visa and AED 26,000 with four, and it has to be filed on or before the expiry date because RAKEZ applies a late penalty of AED 50 per day from that date with no grace period. Amendments to licence type, activities or lease are accepted only in the 60 days before expiry, so the renewal decision is really a 60-day planning window, not a payment on the last day.
That is the whole story in two sentences. The rest of this guide is for the founder who holds a RAKEZ licence today and wants to know exactly what the renewal will cost, what the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone will ask for, what the federal authorities add on top, and where the money is lost when a renewal goes wrong. We write from the RAKEZ licence renewal checklist (Issue 04, dated 22 January 2025), the RAKEZ renewal support programme, the published ICP and Federal Tax Authority fee pages, and our own rate card. Where RAKEZ does not publish a figure, we say so and quote our price instead of inventing a tariff.

RAKEZ licence renewal cost in 2026
RAKEZ publishes promotional package prices for new set-ups (a Basic package at AED 6,000 and a Lite package with one visa at AED 12,000 at the last check) and states on its renewal service card that renewal fees vary by licence type, activity and facility. It does not publish a renewal schedule. Any website that quotes a fixed RAKEZ renewal price is quoting its own package, and so are we.
The table below is the Noble Core client price for a RAKEZ licence renewal from year two onwards. It covers the trade licence, registration, establishment card, e-channel, visa processing, medical test and Emirates ID for the stated number of visas. It excludes health insurance, which the law requires and which is priced separately, and it excludes any physical office or warehouse rent.
| Visas on the licence | Noble Core renewal price (AED) | Formation price year one (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| 0 visas | 5,999 | 5,999 |
| 1 visa | 14,000 | 14,000 |
| 2 visas | 18,000 | 18,000 |
| 3 visas | 22,000 | 22,000 |
| 4 visas | 26,000 | 26,000 |
Two things stand out. First, RAKEZ renews at the same price as formation on our card. Some zones front-load year one and renew cheaper; RAKEZ prices a flat annual package. Second, the step from zero to one visa is the expensive one, at AED 8,001, while each visa after that adds AED 4,000. A founder who holds a zero-visa licence and needs a first residence visa should budget for that jump rather than the AED 5,999 headline.
Three add-ons sit outside the package and come up at almost every renewal: basic health insurance at AED 500 per person per year, VAT registration at AED 500 if the company has crossed the threshold since the last renewal, and corporate tax registration at AED 400 if it was never done. A business bank account opening with Mashreq Neo or Wio is AED 800 if the company still has no account, which is more common than it should be among companies that set up quickly and traded on a personal account.
What RAKEZ asks for: the renewal checklist
The RAKEZ free zone licence renewal checklist is a two-page document, reference REGR-015, and it is the only authoritative list of what the zone will request. The documents fall into five groups.
- Corporate shareholder or parent company documents. If a shareholder is a UAE mainland company, RAKEZ wants a valid trade licence copy from that company's economic department. If the shareholder is a free zone company or a foreign company, it wants a certificate of good standing or a commercial register extract, notarised and legalised up to the UAE embassy level or attested by the issuing free zone. This is the item that breaks timelines. A foreign extract can take three to six weeks to obtain and legalise.
- Individual shareholder, director and manager passports. A valid passport copy is required only if the copy on file with RAKEZ has expired. Check expiry dates for every person on the licence two months out. A renewed passport also triggers a change in the immigration record, which is a separate request.
- Chamber of Commerce membership renewal form. Where the company holds a RAK Chamber of Commerce membership, the renewal application form must be signed by the manager or authorised signatory. RAKEZ issues the renewed Chamber certificate with the licence.
- Renewed lease agreement. For a physical office, warehouse or plot, two copies of the renewed lease signed by the authorised signatory are required. A flexi-desk or shared facility included in the package does not need a separate lease upload, but the facility must still be active on the account.
- NOCs from regulators. The checklist lists the common ones: a RAK Police security systems (CCTV) certificate for warehouses and plots, a RAK Civil Defence certificate of compliance with fire safety requirements for warehouses and plots, a RAK Municipality approval for foodstuff activities operating from warehouses, plots or retail shops, and an Environmental Protection and Development Authority compliance certificate for activities with an environmental footprint.
Three rules from the same checklist matter as much as the documents. All documents must be in English or Arabic, or carry a certified translation. A power of attorney must be accompanied by a valid passport copy of the attorney. And RAKEZ reserves the right to ask for additional documents or extra attestation, which in our experience happens most often when a corporate shareholder's structure has changed since the last filing.
Step by step: renewing on Portal 360
RAKEZ runs renewals through Portal 360, its client portal at eportal.rakez.com, and through the RAKEZ mobile app. The renewal service card describes the customer journey as four steps and the checklist expands it to seven. Combined, this is the sequence.
- Log in to Portal 360 and choose Registration from the services menu. If the company has never activated its portal access, request log-in details first; this takes a day or two and is a common reason a last-week renewal slips past expiry.
- Select Renewal and enter the required details. Confirm the licence number, the activities, the facility and the number of visa allocations you want for the coming year.
- Pay the renewal fees. RAKEZ accepts card payments, bank transfer, direct debit, e-wallet, payment links, Al Ansari Exchange and instalment options including Tabby and credit card instalments, according to its renewal support page.
- Upload the mandatory documents from the checklist above.
- Submit the service request for RAKEZ verification.
- Upload any missing documents RAKEZ asks for.
- Receive the renewed e-licence. RAKEZ states that the licence is renewed instantly once all requirements are satisfied, and that the renewed immigration file e-card and Chamber of Commerce certificate are issued with it where applicable.
The processing promise is genuine, and the verification step is where the time goes. A clean file with no expired passports, no corporate shareholder changes and no physical premises typically completes the same day. A file with a warehouse, a foreign parent and a changed manager can sit in step six for weeks while certificates are chased. Plan for the slow version.
Penalties, deadlines and the 60-day window
RAKEZ is unusually clear on timing, and every figure below comes from its own documents.
| Rule | What RAKEZ publishes |
|---|---|
| Renewal deadline | On or before the licence expiry date |
| Grace period | None. "There is no grace period after the licence expiry date." |
| Late renewal penalty | AED 50 per day from the licence expiry date |
| Third-party fines | Accrue separately on the immigration file and Chamber of Commerce membership; RAKEZ accepts no responsibility for them |
| Amendment window | Licence type change, activity change, adding a new licence, cancelling an additional licence, lease upgrade or downgrade: accepted only in the 60 days before expiry |
| Immigration services | Available only once e-channel registration or renewal is complete |
The AED 50 per day penalty sounds small and compounds badly. Thirty days late is AED 1,500 on top of the renewal, before immigration fines. Sixty days late is AED 3,000, which on a zero-visa package is half the licence fee again. More damaging than the penalty is what an expired licence blocks: the company cannot renew or issue residence visas, its bank will flag the account at the next compliance review, and customers running supplier checks will see an expired record. Several founders we have worked with discovered the expiry only when a bank froze outgoing payments.
The 60-day amendment window is the planning constraint most owners miss. If you want to add an activity, upgrade from a flexi-desk to a warehouse, or drop a second licence, RAKEZ will take that request only in the two months before expiry. File it earlier and it is refused; file it after renewal and you pay for a mid-term amendment. The right habit is to review the activity list, visa count and facility at day 70 and file the amendment and the renewal together inside the window.
The federal layer: ICP, e-channel and the Federal Tax Authority
A RAKEZ licence renewal is one of three renewals, and the other two are federal. Ras Al Khaimah immigration runs through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), not through Dubai's GDRFA, which is why RAKEZ's checklist refers to the e-channel registration. The company's establishment card, called the immigration file e-card in RAKEZ's wording, must be valid for any visa work in the coming year.
ICP publishes its fees, which is more than most free zones do. The figures below are the federal service fees as published by ICP at the time of writing; confirm the current amount on the official portal before paying, because ICP revises fees and some are collected through the free zone with a service charge on top.
| ICP service | Published government fee (AED) |
|---|---|
| Establishment card renewal | 300 plus 1,000 e-system charge |
| Establishment card late renewal | 100 per month, capped at 1,000 |
| Residence permit | 100 application, 100 per year of validity, 100 smart service |
| Emirates ID | 100 per year of residence, 100 smart service |
| Golden visa (10 years) | 1,200 |
| Green visa (5 years) | 700 |
The third renewal is tax. Every RAKEZ company is a taxable person under the UAE corporate tax law and must hold a corporate tax registration with the Federal Tax Authority, whether or not it qualifies for the zero per cent free zone rate. Qualifying Free Zone Person status depends on adequate substance in the zone, qualifying income, audited financial statements regardless of turnover, and non-qualifying income kept under the de minimis threshold of the lower of AED 5 million or 5 per cent of revenue, according to the Federal Tax Authority's free zone persons guidance. Losing the status costs the company the current tax period and the four following periods at 9 per cent, so the renewal review is the moment to check that the audited accounts exist and that mainland-sourced revenue has not quietly crossed the line.
If the company is VAT registered, its filing calendar does not pause for the licence renewal. If it registered for VAT on a voluntary basis and turnover has fallen, renewal is a sensible point to consider deregistration; the FTA processes deregistration in about 30 business days and charges no fee for it.

Multi-year renewal: when it pays and when it traps you
RAKEZ offers renewal for two, three or five years through its renewal support programme and assigns a Renewal Support Manager to each client. The zone presents the longer terms as the cheaper route per year, and for the right company they are.
The case for multi-year is a company whose activity list, visa count and facility will not change. Paying once removes the annual deadline risk, removes the chance of a missed AED 50 per day penalty, and fixes the licence fee against future price revisions. For a holding structure or a one-person consultancy with a stable client base, three years is often the right answer.
The case against is the 60-day amendment window. Licence type and activity changes are accepted only in the two months before expiry. A company that renews for five years and then needs to add an activity in year two is filing a mid-term amendment at amendment prices rather than folding it into a renewal. A business that is still finding its shape should renew annually until the activity list has stopped moving.
There is also a cash flow point. A multi-year payment is a large single outflow. RAKEZ's instalment options exist precisely to soften that, and a founder who would otherwise take a three-year term on a credit card instalment plan should compare the instalment cost with simply renewing annually.
RAKEZ renewal compared with other zones over three years
The headline price is the wrong number to compare. A free zone licence is a recurring cost, and zones price year one and later years very differently. On the Noble Core rate card, the three-year cost of a one-visa licence looks like this.
| Zone | Year 1 (AED) | Years 2 and 3 each (AED) | Three-year total (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| RAKEZ | 14,000 | 14,000 | 42,000 |
| SHAMS (media licence) | 14,999 | 7,350 | 29,699 |
| IFZA | 17,610 | 17,100 | 51,810 |
| Meydan | 20,560 | 14,350 | 49,260 |
| Ajman Free Zone | 13,141 | 13,141 | 39,423 |
RAKEZ sits in the middle of the pack over three years, cheaper than IFZA and Meydan and more expensive than SHAMS. That is not a reason to leave. RAKEZ is a strong choice for industrial, warehousing and trading activities that need land or built facilities, and for companies that want a Ras Al Khaimah address with its own customs and port access. It is a reason to run the three-year number before you sign, and to ask at each renewal whether the activity still needs what RAKEZ offers. A pure services company with no warehouse paying AED 14,000 a year for a flexi-desk is paying for infrastructure it does not use, and a zone change at renewal is a legitimate option we cover in our free zone renewal comparison.
For a company with a warehouse or plot, the comparison is different and RAKEZ usually wins it. Industrial licences in RAKEZ carry their own renewal requirements, including audited financials, which we set out in the RAKEZ industrial licence guide.
A 60-day renewal plan for a RAKEZ company
Working backwards from the expiry date, this is the calendar we run for clients.
Day 70 to 60. Pull the licence, the lease, the establishment card and every passport on file. List expiry dates. Decide the activity list, visa count and facility for the coming year. Request Portal 360 access if the company has never used it.
Day 60. The amendment window opens. File any licence type, activity, additional licence or lease change together with the renewal request. Order any foreign certificate of good standing or commercial register extract now, with legalisation.
Day 45 to 30. Book the RAK Civil Defence inspection and the RAK Police CCTV certificate if the company leases a warehouse or plot. Renew the lease and obtain two signed copies. Confirm e-channel registration is active and the establishment card is valid; renew it with the licence if it expires in the same quarter.
Day 30 to 15. Pay the renewal fee on Portal 360 and upload the documents. Pay any Chamber of Commerce membership renewal. Check corporate tax registration and whether audited accounts for the last financial year exist.
Day 15 to 0. Clear any additional document request from RAKEZ. Download the renewed e-licence, the immigration e-card and the Chamber certificate. Send the new licence to the bank and to any customer or supplier that holds the company on a vendor file.
After renewal. Diary the next 60-day window. Renew health insurance for each visa holder, which runs on its own dates. If a residence visa expires in the coming year, start that process at least two months before the visa date, because it depends on a valid licence and establishment card.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the expiry date as the start of the process. There is no grace period and the AED 50 per day penalty begins on the expiry date. Start at day 70.
- Missing the 60-day amendment window. Activity changes, licence type changes and lease changes filed outside the two months before expiry are either refused or charged as mid-term amendments.
- Letting a passport on file expire. RAKEZ requires a new copy for any shareholder, director or manager whose passport on record has lapsed, and the immigration record needs updating too.
- Forgetting the corporate shareholder's paperwork. A certificate of good standing for a foreign parent, legalised to UAE embassy level, is the single slowest document in the file.
- Renewing the licence but not the establishment card. Visa work stops without a valid immigration e-card and an active e-channel registration, and ICP charges AED 100 per month for a late establishment card.
- Ignoring the regulator NOCs. Warehouse and plot tenants need RAK Civil Defence and RAK Police certificates; foodstuff activities need RAK Municipality approval. Inspections take time to book.
- Comparing headline prices across zones. RAKEZ renews at the same price as formation; other zones do not. Compare three-year totals.
- Assuming the renewal covers health insurance. It does not. Insurance is a legal requirement and is priced per person on top of the package.
- Skipping the tax check. Corporate tax registration, audited accounts and the free zone de minimis test are not part of the RAKEZ renewal, but the renewal is when they get forgotten.
- Paying an agent without a written breakdown. RAKEZ states that fees vary by licence type, activity and facility. Any quote should itemise the RAKEZ fee, the ICP fees and the service charge separately.
What Noble Core does for you
Noble Core Ventures is an independent private consultancy founded in 2020 with six offices across the UAE. We are not a government body and we do not issue licences, visas or approvals; RAKEZ, ICP and the Federal Tax Authority do. What we do is run the renewal so that nothing is late and nothing is missed.
For a RAKEZ renewal we start with a document audit against the RAKEZ checklist, flag expired passports and missing corporate documents, and tell you what the whole year will cost in writing, with our package price, the ICP fees and any regulator fees itemised. We file the renewal and any amendments together inside the 60-day window on Portal 360, chase the verification step, and deliver the renewed e-licence, immigration e-card and Chamber certificate. If the company needs a bank account, VAT or corporate tax registration, or an audited set of accounts before the renewal, we arrange those alongside it. We also tell you honestly if a different zone would serve the business better at this renewal, and what a move would cost.
Message us on WhatsApp with your licence expiry date and the number of visas: https://wa.me/971556074231?text=Hi%2C%20I%20read%20your%20article%20on%20RAKEZ%20licence%20renewal%20%5BUAE%3Apost-rakez-license-renewal-2026%5D, or call +971 52 253 5694. You will get a written renewal quote, a 60-day calendar for your dates, and a plain answer on whether to renew for one year or three.
If you are still at the set-up stage rather than the renewal stage, our RAKEZ free zone cost guide covers formation packages, and the Ras Al Khaimah immigration guide explains the ICP and e-channel steps that every RAKEZ company depends on.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does RAKEZ license renewal cost in 2026?
On the Noble Core rate card a RAKEZ licence renews at AED 5,999 with no visa, AED 14,000 with one visa, AED 18,000 with two, AED 22,000 with three and AED 26,000 with four. RAKEZ itself publishes only promotional headline packages and states that renewal fees vary by licence type, activity and facility, so treat any fixed figure as a quote, not a tariff.
Is there a grace period for RAKEZ license renewal?
No. RAKEZ states on its renewal support page that there is no grace period after the licence expiry date. Its licence renewal checklist adds a late renewal penalty of AED 50 per day counted from the expiry date, plus any third-party fines that accrue on the immigration file and the Chamber of Commerce membership. Renew on or before the expiry date.
What documents do I need to renew a RAKEZ licence?
The RAKEZ free zone renewal checklist lists five items: documents of any corporate shareholder or parent company, valid passport copies for individual shareholders, directors and the manager if the copies on file have expired, the Chamber of Commerce membership renewal form where applicable, two signed copies of a renewed lease for physical premises, and any NOC from a regulator such as RAK Civil Defence.
How long does RAKEZ license renewal take?
RAKEZ describes the service as instantly renewed once all requirements are satisfied. In practice the clock runs on your side: gathering a notarised certificate of good standing for a foreign parent company or a Civil Defence certificate for a warehouse can take weeks. Start 60 days before expiry so the request itself is a same-day step rather than a scramble.
Can I renew a RAKEZ licence for more than one year?
Yes. RAKEZ offers renewal for two, three or five years through its renewal support programme, and positions the longer terms as the cheaper route per year. Multi-year renewal suits a stable company with a settled activity list and visa count, because licence type and activity amendments are accepted only in the 60 days before expiry and a long term defers that window.
What happens if my RAKEZ licence expires?
The AED 50 per day penalty starts on the expiry date and the immigration file and Chamber membership attract their own fines. An expired licence also blocks visa renewals, new visa applications and most bank and customer compliance checks, because the company cannot show a valid licence. Residence visas tied to the establishment are at risk if the licence stays expired.
Can I change activities or add a licence at renewal?
Yes, but only in a fixed window. RAKEZ accepts licence type changes, activity changes, adding or cancelling an additional licence, and lease upgrades or downgrades only in the 60 days before the licence expiry date. Decide what the company will look like next year before that window opens, so the amendment and the renewal are filed together rather than as two separate requests.
Do I need to renew the establishment card and e-channel with the licence?
Yes. RAKEZ issues a renewed immigration file e-card together with the licence where applicable, and its checklist states that e-channel registration or renewal must be completed before any immigration service is available. Under ICP’s published fees an establishment card renewal is AED 300 plus the e-system charge, with a late fee of AED 100 per month capped at AED 1,000.
Can Noble Core renew my RAKEZ licence if I set up elsewhere?
Yes. We renew licences for companies we did not form, provided the shareholders authorise us and the Portal 360 account or a power of attorney is in place. We check the licence, lease, immigration file and tax registrations against the RAKEZ checklist, quote the full year in writing with government fees itemised, and file the renewal and any amendments in one request.
