Quick AnswerSPC Free Zone license renewal in 2026: AED 5,750 for a publishing or e-commerce licence, from AED 6,875 Standard, plus visa-year costs and portal steps.
An SPC Free Zone license renewal in 2026 costs AED 5,750 a year for a Publishing or E-commerce licence and from AED 6,875 for a Standard licence, according to the fees SPC publishes on its own website. In a year when your investor visa also expires, SPC itself tells founders to budget at least AED 10,245, because the visa allocation, visa with Emirates ID and medical test come back on top of the licence. Start the renewal in the customer portal before the expiry date: SPC warns that late renewal can bring fines, suspension and, in the end, cancellation.
Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, known as SPC Free Zone, is one of the UAE free zones that publishes its renewal price in plain view. That makes the renewal easier to plan than at most authorities, but it also hides a trap. The headline AED 5,750 is the licence alone. The real bill swings by thousands of dirhams depending on whether your visas, establishment card and medical tests fall due in the same year.
This guide is written for founders who already hold an SPC licence and want to keep the company running without surprises. It sets out what SPC charges, what the numbers look like in a quiet year and in a visa year, how the portal process runs, which tax checks to clear at the same time, and when renewal is the wrong move. All SPC figures below were checked on spcfz.ae on 17 October 2026. Government and authority fees can change, so confirm the final invoice on the official portal before you pay.

SPC Free Zone renewal fees in 2026: what SPC publishes
SPC runs two licence tiers. The Publishing and E-commerce tier covers media, publishing and online selling. The Standard tier covers trading, consulting and general commercial activities, with the widest activity set. Both tiers let you combine up to five activity groups under one licence and both include a co-working lease agreement.
The fees SPC lists on its cost guide and its pay-as-you-go page are set out below.
| Item (SPC Free Zone, published fee) | AED | When it falls due |
|---|---|---|
| Licence renewal, Publishing or E-commerce tier | 5,750 | Every year |
| Licence renewal, Standard tier | from 6,875 | Every year |
| Visa allocation | 1,600 per visa | At issue, and again in each visa renewal year per SPC's guide |
| Investor visa including Emirates ID | 2,530 | At issue, then on renewal (SPC issues investor visas for two years) |
| Medical test | 365 per person | With each residence visa issue or renewal |
| Establishment card | 640 | Valid two years |
| E-channel registration | 2,280 | Set-up cost listed by SPC |
| Additional business activity beyond package limit | 2,200 | When added |
| Change of status inside the UAE | 700 | Only for a new visa holder already in the country |
| Name reservation | 500 | Only on a new or changed trade name |
Two points stand out. First, the Standard tier is quoted as "from" AED 6,875, which means the price varies with the activity mix. If your licence carries trading or consulting activities, ask for the exact renewal figure on your portal invoice rather than assuming the floor. Second, SPC states there is no mandatory upfront visa deposit, which removes a cost that catches founders at several other free zones.
What the table does not show is health insurance, which is required for residence visa holders and priced separately, and any fines that have built up on the company file. Both need to be cleared or arranged before a renewal goes through smoothly.
A quiet year versus a visa year: the real numbers
The single most useful thing to understand about an SPC renewal is that your cost runs on a two-year rhythm. SPC issues the establishment card and investor visas for two years, so the immigration costs return every second year rather than every year.
A company with no visas. The renewal is close to the licence fee: AED 5,750 on the Publishing or E-commerce tier, or from AED 6,875 on Standard. If you keep the co-working lease that comes with the package and add no activities, there is very little else to pay to SPC.
A one-visa company in the year between visa renewals. The licence is the main SPC charge. Your investor visa and establishment card are still valid, so the medical and Emirates ID costs do not return. Health insurance still renews every year for the visa holder.
A one-visa company in the visa renewal year. This is the year that surprises people. SPC's own worked example for the Publishing tier is at least AED 10,245, made up as follows:
| Visa renewal year, 1 investor visa (SPC's figures) | AED |
|---|---|
| Licence renewal, Publishing or E-commerce tier | 5,750 |
| Visa allocation | 1,600 |
| Investor visa including Emirates ID | 2,530 |
| Medical test | 365 |
| Minimum total stated by SPC | 10,245 |
| Establishment card, if it expires the same year | 640 |
| Health insurance, per visa holder | priced separately |
SPC adds that total renewal costs commonly run between AED 10,000 and AED 20,000 depending on office size and the scale of the business. That range is wide because a dedicated office, extra visas and additional activities all stack on top of the licence.
The practical lesson is simple. Put the expiry dates of the licence, the establishment card and every residence visa into one calendar, and plan the cash for the year where they line up. Founders who only remember the AED 5,750 headline are the ones who end up paying late fees on the visa side.
Our renewal prices and how SPC compares with other free zones
Noble Core quotes SPC renewals from our 2026 rate card. For the Publishing or E-commerce tier, the package renewal price is set out below, next to the other free zones we renew most often. Standard-tier SPC licences are quoted after we see your activity list, because SPC prices that tier from AED 6,875 upwards.
| Free zone (Noble Core 2026 rate card) | Renewal, 0 visas (AED) | Renewal, 1 visa (AED) | Renewal, 2 visas (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPC Free Zone (Publishing or E-commerce) | 5,750 | 7,350 | 8,950 |
| SHAMS (media licence) | 5,750 | 7,350 | 8,950 |
| Ajman NuVentures Centre Free Zone | 4,888 | 9,900 | 13,950 |
| Ajman Free Zone | 5,555 | 13,141 | 17,181 |
| RAKEZ | 5,999 | 14,000 | 18,000 |
| Meydan Free Zone | 12,500 | 14,350 | 16,200 |
| IFZA | 12,900 | 17,100 | 19,100 |
Health insurance (AED 500 per person per year on our card), change of status and any fines are quoted separately. We confirm in writing which visa costs fall due in your renewal year before you pay, so the quote matches the two-year cycle described above.
Read the table for what it is: a comparison of keeping a company alive, not of setting one up. SPC sits at the lower end with one or two visas, alongside SHAMS. For a founder already inside SPC, that usually means the cheapest move is to renew rather than to relocate, unless the business has outgrown what the zone allows.

When to start, and what late renewal puts at risk
Renewal is due on the licence expiry date. SPC's own FAQ is direct about the consequences of missing it: late renewal can lead to significant penalties including fines and potential suspension of business activities, and continued non-compliance may result in legal action and the eventual cancellation of the licence.
SPC does not publish a fixed late fee amount on its website. That matters, because several third-party sites quote monthly late fees for "Sharjah free zones" as if one number applies to every authority. It does not. If you are already past expiry, ask SPC's renewals desk for the exact figure in writing before you pay anything else.
A sensible timeline looks like this:
- 60 days before expiry. Check the licence, establishment card and visa expiry dates together. Confirm whether any shareholder, manager or activity details need to change.
- 45 days before expiry. Renew or arrange health insurance for visa holders, and book medical tests if visas are due.
- 30 days before expiry. Log in to the customer portal, upload documents and pay the renewal invoice.
- After payment. Download the renewed licence and send it to your bank, which will usually ask for the updated copy to keep the account active.
Starting early costs nothing and protects three things that an expired licence blocks: new or renewed visas, bank account maintenance and tax filings that rely on a valid trade licence.
Documents and checks before you log in
SPC's renewal runs through its customer portal, and the portal asks for whatever the company file needs at that point. Having these ready avoids the most common back-and-forth.
- Passport copies of shareholders and the manager, with at least six months' validity. An expired passport on file is one of the quickest ways to stall an application.
- Valid residence visa and Emirates ID copies for anyone sponsored by the company, if their documents are part of the renewal.
- Lease or co-working agreement. The package includes a co-working lease, but if you moved to a dedicated office, the lease must be valid for the new licence year.
- Activity approvals. If any activity needs an external approval, make sure it is still valid. A lapsed approval can block the activity from renewing.
- Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) details. SPC publishes Cabinet Decision 109 of 2023 on beneficial ownership on its rules page. If ownership or control has changed, the register must be updated, and our records show the UBO update window under that decision is 15 working days.
- Know Your Client and anti-money laundering records. SPC reminds companies that they must comply with AML, counter-terrorism financing and proliferation financing laws, including keeping accurate records and doing due diligence on clients.
Run one more check before you pay: confirm there are no unpaid fines on the company file. A fine sitting on the establishment card or a visa record will usually need to be cleared before the renewal or the next immigration step can go through.
Step by step: renewing through the SPC customer portal
SPC describes its renewal as a portal process. In practice it runs in five steps.
Step 1: Log in to the customer portal. Use the company credentials SPC issued at setup. If the login belongs to a former manager or employee, request a credential update first, because the renewal cannot be submitted without access.
Step 2: Review the company details. Check the trade name, activities, shareholders and manager shown on the file. If anything has changed, raise the amendment before the renewal or alongside it. Changing details after the renewed licence is issued usually means a second application.
Step 3: Upload the required documents. The portal lists what it needs. Upload clear colour scans, in the format requested, and make sure every name matches the passport exactly.
Step 4: Pay the renewal invoice. The invoice shows the licence fee for your tier plus any extras, such as added activities. Check that the tier matches your licence. A Standard-tier licence invoiced at the Publishing tier price, or the other way round, is a sign that the activity mix on file needs a look.
Step 5: Receive the renewed licence. SPC's team processes the renewal after payment and issues the updated licence. If the application stalls, SPC's renewals desk can be reached at renewals@spcfz.ae or on 800 SPCFZ (77239).
Then handle the follow-ups in this order: send the renewed licence to your bank, update any marketplace or payment platform that holds a copy, and diary the next expiry date along with the visa and establishment card dates.
Visas, establishment card and Emirates ID at renewal
Visas are where most renewal delays begin, and they run on a separate track from the licence.
SPC issues investor and partner visas for two years, and its establishment card is also valid for two years at AED 640. The establishment card is the company's immigration file. If it expires, no visa can be issued, renewed or cancelled until it is renewed. So the card should be renewed before or together with the licence whenever both fall due in the same year.
For residence visa renewals, SPC's guide sets out the costs it charges: the visa allocation at AED 1,600, the investor visa with Emirates ID at AED 2,530 and the medical test at AED 365 per person. The Emirates ID is issued through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), which also handles biometrics. If your fingerprints or personal data on file are out of date, the ICP may ask you to visit a centre before the ID is finalised.
Three practical rules keep the visa side clean:
- Renew the licence first. A residence visa cannot be renewed on an expired licence, so the licence renewal always comes first in any year when both are due.
- Do not let a visa lapse while the holder is abroad. A residence visa that expires while its holder is outside the country can create a re-entry problem that costs far more time than the renewal itself. Check validity before travel.
- Do not forget health insurance. It is required for visa holders and is priced separately from SPC's fees. A missing policy is a common reason a visa renewal is held.
For a new employee or partner who is already in the UAE on another visa, SPC lists a change of status fee of AED 700. That fee is collected at actual and paid to the authority, so it is quoted up front rather than discovered at the counter.
Corporate tax, VAT and UBO checks to run at the same time
Renewal is the one moment each year when every company document is in front of you. Use it to clear the tax checks, because tax penalties are larger than any renewal fee. This section is general information; confirm your position with a registered tax agent.
Corporate tax registration. Every UAE company, including free zone companies, must register for corporate tax with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). The FTA's late registration penalty is AED 10,000. If your company was formed and never registered, fix that before anything else.
Corporate tax returns. The return is due within nine months of the end of the financial year. A renewal in, say, March is a good prompt to check whether last year's return is filed or scheduled.
Qualifying Free Zone Person status. A free zone company can access the 0% rate on qualifying income only if it meets the FTA's conditions, including adequate substance in the zone, audited financial statements and staying within the de minimis limit for non-qualifying revenue, which is the lower of AED 5 million or 5% of total revenue. Under the FTA's guidance, failing the conditions removes the status for that period and the four that follow. If your clients are on the mainland, take advice on how that income is treated.
VAT. VAT registration becomes mandatory once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000 over 12 months. An e-commerce business on SPC's Publishing tier can cross that line faster than its owner expects. Check your rolling total at each renewal.
Tax record amendments. If the renewal changes the trade name, activities, address or shareholders, the FTA records must be updated too. The FTA allows 20 business days to amend tax records and applies an AED 1,000 penalty for a first failure. Official guidance is on the FTA website at tax.gov.ae.
None of these checks changes the SPC renewal fee. All of them can change what the company pays in penalties during the year that follows.
Renew as is, change tier, add activities or close
Not every renewal should be a straight repeat of last year. Use the renewal to make a deliberate choice.
Renew as is if the activities still match what you sell, the visa count is right and the co-working arrangement still works. For most SPC companies this is the correct answer, and at AED 5,750 to 7,350 for the common Publishing-tier packages on our card, it is an affordable one.
Move from Publishing to Standard if the business now trades physical goods, consults, or needs activities the Publishing and E-commerce tier does not cover. The Standard tier starts from AED 6,875. Make the change at renewal so the new licence is issued once with the right activities.
Add activities when you are expanding within the same business line. SPC includes up to five activity groups and lists AED 2,200 for each activity beyond the package limit. Adding a regulated activity may need an approval from an outside authority, so start that process before the renewal date.
Change the trade name if the brand has moved on. SPC publishes company name change records on its announcements site, and a name change triggers the bank, tax and contract updates that come with any new name.
Close the company if it has stopped trading. Leaving a licence to expire is not closure. Fines and liabilities can keep building on an expired file, and SPC also publishes closing announcements, which shows that closure is a formal process with its own steps. Plan it properly, including visa cancellations and tax deregistration.
Move to another zone only when the numbers or the activity clearly demand it. Relocating means forming a new company, opening a new bank account, re-registering for tax and transferring visas, then closing the SPC entity. That is worth doing for a regulated activity SPC cannot offer, a warehouse need, or a commercial reason to hold a licence elsewhere. It is rarely worth doing to save a small amount on renewal, because SPC already renews at the lower end of the market.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Budgeting only the AED 5,750 headline. In a visa renewal year, SPC's own minimum for one investor visa is AED 10,245. Plan the two-year cycle, not the single fee.
- Assuming the Standard tier renews at AED 6,875 flat. SPC quotes it as "from" AED 6,875. Your activity mix sets the real figure.
- Letting the establishment card expire. At AED 640 it is the cheapest item on the list, and the one that blocks every visa transaction when it lapses.
- Trusting a generic late-fee figure. SPC does not publish a fixed late renewal fine. Get the exact amount from SPC in writing if you are past expiry.
- Renewing first and amending later. Changing activities, name or shareholders after the renewed licence is issued usually means a second application and a second fee.
- Forgetting the UBO register. A change in ownership or control that is not reported within the window set by Cabinet Decision 109 of 2023 creates a compliance problem the renewal does not fix.
- Skipping the tax checks. An unregistered company faces the FTA's AED 10,000 late registration penalty, far more than the renewal itself.
- Not sending the renewed licence to the bank. Banks review accounts against a valid licence. An out-of-date copy on their file can lead to restrictions on the account.
- Leaving a dormant company to expire. If the business has stopped, close it properly. An expired licence is not a closed company.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an SPC Free Zone license renewal cost in 2026?
SPC Free Zone publishes a renewal fee of AED 5,750 a year for its Publishing and E-commerce licence and from AED 6,875 for its Standard licence, which covers trading, consulting and general commercial activities. Those figures cover the licence alone. Visa renewals, medical tests and any extra activities are added on top, so your real bill depends on how many people the company sponsors.
What do I pay in the year my SPC investor visa expires?
SPC’s own guide says to expect at least AED 10,245 in a visa renewal year on the Publishing tier: AED 5,750 for the licence, AED 1,600 for the visa allocation, AED 2,530 for the investor visa with Emirates ID and AED 365 for the medical test. Health insurance and any fines are extra. In the year between visa renewals the licence fee is the main cost.
How do I renew my SPC Free Zone licence?
Log in to the SPC customer portal, upload the documents the renewal screen asks for, and pay the renewal invoice. SPC’s team then processes the renewal and issues the updated licence. If something blocks the application, SPC’s renewals desk can be reached at renewals@spcfz.ae or on 800 SPCFZ (77239). Clear open fines and expired documents before you start.
What happens if I renew my SPC licence late?
SPC says late renewal can lead to fines and suspension of business activities, and that continued non-compliance can end in legal action and cancellation of the licence. SPC does not publish a fixed late fee amount on its website, so ask for the exact figure before the expiry date passes. An expired licence also blocks visa, bank and tax work for the company.
Is the establishment card renewed every year at SPC?
No. SPC states that its establishment card, priced at AED 640, is valid for two years. That means it falls due every second renewal, usually alongside investor visa renewals, which SPC also issues for two years. Check both expiry dates on your documents, because a card that lapses before the licence renewal can hold up any immigration transaction for the company.
Can I add business activities when I renew with SPC?
Yes. SPC licences include up to five activity groups at no extra cost, and SPC lists AED 2,200 for each additional business activity beyond your package limit. Renewal is the cleanest moment to add or remove activities, because the licence is being reissued anyway. Some regulated activities still need an external approval first, so check before you pay the renewal invoice.
Does SPC Free Zone renewal include a physical office?
The SPC licence packages include a co-working lease agreement, and a physical office is optional. SPC’s guide notes that office size and business scale push total renewal costs into a range of about AED 10,000 to AED 20,000 for many companies. If you keep a dedicated office, budget its rent separately from the licence fee when you plan the year.
Do I need corporate tax registration to renew an SPC company?
Every UAE company, including free zone companies, must register for corporate tax with the Federal Tax Authority, and late registration carries an AED 10,000 penalty. Renewal is a good moment to confirm the registration, the return deadline and whether you still meet Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions. This is general information; confirm your position with a registered tax agent.
How much does Noble Core charge to renew an SPC licence?
On our 2026 rate card, an SPC Publishing or E-commerce licence renews at AED 5,750 with no visas, AED 7,350 with one visa and AED 8,950 with two. Health insurance, change of status and any fines are quoted separately, and we confirm in writing which visa costs fall due in your renewal year before you pay anything.
