Quick AnswerAbu Dhabi trade license renewal in 2026: TAMM fee AED 890 plus Chamber 150 to 2,200, one working day online. Documents, lease rules, late fees.

An Abu Dhabi trade license renewal in 2026 costs AED 890 in the organisational entities fee on TAMM, plus AED 10 for the licence renewal and AED 10 for the economic register, and TAMM lists the service at 1 working day once a complete application is in. The bigger variable is the Abu Dhabi Chamber membership collected with it, from AED 150 for craft activities to AED 2,200 for foreign branches, so a normal commercial company pays about AED 2,560 before its establishment card, lease and visas.

Those figures come straight from the Renew Economic Licence (Commercial) service on TAMM, which we re-read on 16 October 2026. That matters because most renewal guides online still quote older Abu Dhabi totals or borrow Dubai numbers. Abu Dhabi is one of the few places in the UAE where the licensing authority publishes its renewal fee as itemised lines, so there is no reason to budget from guesswork.

This guide is written for the owner of an existing Abu Dhabi mainland business whose licence is due, or already expired. It covers what the renewal costs line by line, which Chamber category you fall into, what TAMM will ask you to upload, what happens if you are late, and the four other renewals (establishment card, visas, work permits and tax records) that run on their own clocks and trip up most companies. It also covers the decision many owners face at renewal time: renew as is, renew with changes, or close the licence properly.

What an Abu Dhabi trade licence renewal covers in 2026

In Abu Dhabi, a mainland trade licence is formally called an economic licence. It is issued and renewed by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), and the renewal itself is filed through TAMM, the Abu Dhabi government's single services platform. You sign in with UAE PASS, submit the application, wait for approval, pay, and download the renewed licence.

There are several renewal services, and picking the right one is the first step:

  • Renew Economic Licence (Commercial). The service most companies use: trading, services, consultancies, contracting, retail, restaurants and professional firms.
  • Renewal of Economic Licence (Industrial). For manufacturing licences. It carries its own fee lines and a two working day timeline.
  • Tajer Abu Dhabi. A licence for specific commercial activities without an official establishment site, issued for three years. Its renewal rules follow the Tajer terms rather than the standard lease rules.
  • Freelancer and Mobdea licences. Individual licences that, according to TAMM, do not need an approved lease contract to renew.

Free zone companies are outside this process. A company licensed by ADGM, KEZAD, Masdar City, twofour54 or Hub71 renews with its own zone authority. If your licence says Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development at the top, this guide applies.

Why Abu Dhabi is easier to budget than Dubai. The Abu Dhabi government publishes the renewal fee lines on the service page itself. Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) does not publish a single renewal fee schedule for standard mainland licences: it says the fees vary by activity and licence, and the figure appears during the application. That is why Dubai renewal quotes differ so widely between consultants, and why an Abu Dhabi owner can check almost every dirham of a quote against the official page before paying anyone. Our UAE trade licence renewal guide compares the emirates side by side.

Abu Dhabi trade licence renewal fees in 2026: every line on TAMM

These are the fee lines listed on the TAMM Renew Economic Licence (Commercial) service when we checked it on 16 October 2026. They are government fees, paid to the authority. Confirm the final amount on the official portal at the time of application, because fee lines can change without notice.

Fee line on TAMM (commercial renewal) AED Notes
Organisational entities fee 890 The core renewal charge
Licence renewal fee 10 Fixed
Renewal fee for registration in the economic register 10 Fixed
Federal service fees 0 Listed at zero
Social contributions 0 Listed at zero
Additional activities beyond 6 100 each Calculated per extra activity
Abu Dhabi Chamber membership 150 to 2,200 By category, see the next section

Three points stand out.

First, the base is small and fixed. AED 910 covers the three licensing lines for a licence with six activities or fewer. Every licence owner pays the same base regardless of size or turnover.

Second, activities beyond six cost extra. If you added activities over the years to cover new work, each one past the sixth adds AED 100 to every renewal. A licence carrying ten activities pays AED 400 more per year than one carrying six. Renewal is the right moment to check whether all of them are still in use.

Third, the Chamber line is the one that moves the bill. It is not optional and it is not a separate filing. It is collected as part of the renewal, which is why many owners do not realise they are paying it.

Industrial licences have different lines. The TAMM industrial renewal service lists the same AED 890 organisational entities fee, AED 10 initial licence renewal fee and AED 10 economic register renewal, plus AED 100 for each activity beyond six and AED 500 for each product beyond six. It also lists delay fees of AED 200 per month, and it takes two working days rather than one. Industrial licences in the production stage can renew for one, two or three years.

Abu Dhabi Chamber membership: the fee that sets your real bill

Every mainland establishment in Abu Dhabi is a member of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, and the membership renews with the licence. TAMM lists the membership fees on the commercial renewal service by category:

Abu Dhabi Chamber membership category (TAMM) AED per renewal
Craft activities 150
Branches 600
Commercial, tourism, agricultural, livestock and fisheries activities 1,650
Professional activities 2,000
Foreign branches 2,200

The category follows the licence, not your preference. A general trading company or a restaurant falls under commercial activities. A consultancy, engineering office or other licence issued on a professional basis falls under professional activities. A branch of a UAE company sits at AED 600, while a branch of a company incorporated abroad sits at AED 2,200.

If you hold a licence that mixes activity types, the category shown on your current licence and previous renewal receipt is the best guide to what TAMM will calculate. If the amount on the application looks wrong, stop before paying and check the licence category, because correcting a category after payment is slower than catching it before.

A note on older guides. Some sources, including earlier versions of our own notes, recorded the Chamber line at zero on renewal. The TAMM service page now lists the category fees above. Budget for them.

What a typical Abu Dhabi renewal costs: three worked examples

The licence fee is only part of a renewal. Most companies also renew an establishment card and at least one residence visa in the same period. These examples use the TAMM and ICP fee lines published on 16 October 2026 and keep each item separate so you can match them against a quote. They exclude rent, visa medicals, Emirates ID and health insurance, which vary by company.

Line Professional consultancy, 6 activities Commercial trading LLC, 9 activities Branch of a UAE company, 4 activities
    Organisational entities fee 890 890 890
    Licence renewal fee 10 10 10
    Economic register renewal 10 10 10
    Activities beyond 6 0 300 0
    Abu Dhabi Chamber membership 2,000 1,650 600
    Licence renewal subtotal 2,910 2,860 1,510
    ICP establishment card renewal, 1 year 1,300 1,300 1,300
Total before lease, visas and insurance 4,210 4,160 2,810

The establishment card line is ICP's renewal schedule: AED 100 application, AED 100 per year, AED 1,000 for renewing the establishment subscription in ICP's electronic system, and AED 100 smart service fee. For a multi-year card, the per-year line is the part that scales.

What these tables tell you as an owner: the government cost of keeping an Abu Dhabi mainland company alive is modest, roughly AED 2,800 to 4,300 a year before people and premises. The real costs of a company are the lease and the visas. That is also why a renewal quote far above the published lines needs explaining. A consultant's service fee is legitimate, but it should be shown as a separate line, not folded into a "renewal package" that hides the government cost.

Documents and approvals TAMM asks for

The TAMM commercial renewal service lists two documents:

    1. An approved lease contract. The lease must be valid. In Abu Dhabi, tenancy contracts are registered through the Tawtheeq system, and an expired or unregistered lease is the single most common reason a renewal stalls. TAMM states the lease requirement varies by licence type: it is not required for the Freelancer Licence or the Mobdea Licence, and not required for the Tajer Abu Dhabi Licence during its first three years.
    2. Related entities' approval. Some activities need a sign-off from another authority before the licence can renew, for example health, food, education, tourism or security-related activities. If your licence was issued with an external approval, expect the renewal to check it again.

Before you sign in, also make sure of the following, because each one blocks or slows the application:

    • The UAE PASS account you use belongs to the licence owner, partner or an authorised person on the file.
    • The lease end date covers the renewal period you want. If you want a two-year licence, you need a lease valid for two years.
    • There are no outstanding fines on the economic licence or the establishment file.
    • Partner, manager and activity details are still correct. If they are not, an amendment is needed, and it is cleaner to handle it alongside the renewal than after it.

The renewal period follows the lease. TAMM says that where the lease is valid for more than one year, the licence may be renewed for the permitted duration. Owners who sign a two- or three-year lease can renew once and stop thinking about the licence for that period.

How to renew an Abu Dhabi trade licence on TAMM, step by step

The TAMM service lists five steps. In practice, the preparation before step one is what decides whether this takes one day or three weeks.

    1. Log in using UAE PASS. Use the account linked to the licence owner or the authorised person.
    2. Submit the application and the required documents. Upload the approved lease and any related entity approvals. Choose the renewal period your lease allows.
    3. Receive an approval or rejection notification. TAMM lists one working day for this service. A rejection usually names the missing document or approval.
    4. Pay the applicable fees. Payment is requested after approval, not before. Check the Chamber category and the activity count on the payment screen.
    5. Receive the renewed economic commercial licence. Download it from TAMM and keep the receipt, because ICP, banks and MOHRE will ask for the new licence.

The order that saves the most time. Renew the lease first, then the licence, then the establishment card at ICP, then visas and work permits. Each step depends on the one before it. A company that tries to renew visas on an expired establishment card, or the establishment card on an expired licence, gets rejected at the federal level and loses days.

When to start. We advise clients to start 30 to 45 days before the licence expiry date. That gives time to renew the lease if it expires at the same time, collect any external approvals, and fix a wrong detail without running past the expiry date. Starting on the expiry date itself works if nothing has changed. It rarely works if anything has.

Late renewal: what the published pages say

Owners often ask what the late fine is for an Abu Dhabi trade licence. The honest answer depends on the licence type and on which authority you are late with.

    • Commercial licence. The TAMM commercial renewal page, as published on 16 October 2026, does not show a delay fee as a fixed line. Any late charge is calculated by the system at application. Check the payment screen and do not rely on a number from a third-party website.
    • Industrial licence. The TAMM industrial renewal page lists delay fees of AED 200 per month.
    • Establishment card. ICP charges AED 100 for each month of delay when the card is renewed more than 30 days after expiry, up to a maximum of AED 1,000. ICP also lists a AED 1,000 fine for changing the establishment's information without notifying the authority.

The cost of being late is usually not the fine. It is what an expired licence blocks. With an expired licence, ICP will not renew the establishment card, which means visas for employees and partners cannot be renewed or issued. Banks review expired licences during periodic know-your-customer checks and can restrict an account until a valid licence is uploaded. Government tenders and many corporate clients will not pay invoices from a supplier whose licence has lapsed.

If your licence is already expired, renew it now and do not wait to bundle it with other changes. Clear the licence first, then the establishment card, then everything else.

Renew the establishment card, visas and tax records alongside the licence

A licence renewal does not renew anything else. Four other records run on separate clocks, and most renewal problems we see come from these rather than from the licence itself.

Record Authority What the official page lists When it is due
Establishment card ICP AED 100 application, AED 100 per year, AED 1,000 system subscription, AED 100 smart service; 2 days Card expiry, needs a valid licence
Residence visas ICP AED 100 application, AED 100 per year, AED 100 smart service Each visa's expiry
Work permits MOHRE Fees by company classification Each permit's expiry
Corporate tax registration Federal Tax Authority AED 10,000 penalty for late registration Registration deadline set by licence issue date

Establishment card. ICP's Renewal of Establishment Card service states the card is renewed only if a valid trade licence is available and fines on the establishment are paid. The service takes two days. Renew it straight after the licence, using the renewed licence document.

Residence visas and Emirates ID. ICP's residence permit renewal lists AED 100 application, AED 100 per year of residence and AED 100 smart service. Medical fitness and health insurance are separate costs. Health insurance is mandatory for residents of Abu Dhabi, and visas cannot be renewed without valid cover.

Work permits. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) renews employee work permits on its own timeline and fee scale, which depends on the company's classification. A company with an expired licence cannot complete MOHRE transactions.

Tax records. Renewal is a good moment to check the company's Federal Tax Authority file. Every UAE mainland company must register for corporate tax, and the FTA's corporate tax registration page states that an administrative penalty of AED 10,000 applies for late registration. If you changed your trade name, address, partners or activities at renewal, the FTA expects your tax record to be updated too; the penalty for failing to update tax records is AED 1,000 per violation, rising to AED 5,000 for a repeat within 24 months. Check the current rules on tax.gov.ae. This is general information; confirm your position with a registered tax agent.

A clean annual routine looks like this: lease, licence, establishment card, visas and permits, then a five-minute check of the FTA and beneficial owner records. Do it in that order and nothing gets rejected for depending on something expired.

Renew, amend or cancel: the decision for a business that has changed

Renewal is the cheapest point in the year to change a licence, because you are already filing with the authority and already paying the base fees. Before you click submit, ask three questions.

Is every activity still earning its place? Each activity beyond six adds AED 100 to every renewal. More importantly, some activities need external approvals that are re-checked at renewal. If you added an activity for a project that ended, removing it can make future renewals cheaper and faster.

Has anything changed in the people or the premises? New partners, a new manager, a share transfer, a move to a new office or a new trade name all need an amendment through the Amend Economic Licence (Commercial) service on TAMM. Renewing with out-of-date details does not fix them; it simply carries the problem forward, and ICP fines a company AED 1,000 for changing its information without notifying the authority.

Is the business still trading? If the company has stopped trading, renewing every year just to keep it alive costs money and keeps reporting obligations open, including corporate tax returns. TAMM's Cancel Economic Licence (Commercial) service lists AED 10 licence cancellation fee and AED 10 Chamber fee, and takes 30 working days. The documents it asks for include the liquidator's acceptance certificate, the meeting minutes on liquidating the company and, where applicable, a court decision and termination of the service agent contract. A newspaper announcement and an objection period come before the cancellation certificate. Closing properly takes longer than renewing, but it ends the annual costs.

There is also a fourth option some owners overlook: changing the licence type. A small business that does not need a physical office may fit the Tajer Abu Dhabi licence, which TAMM describes as a licence for specific commercial activities without an official establishment site, valid for three years, with issuance lines of AED 790 organisational fee, AED 10 economic register, AED 315 establishment card request, AED 300 Chamber membership and AED 10 issuance. Whether your activities qualify is something to check activity by activity before deciding.

Our view: for an active company with no changes, renew for the longest period your lease allows. For a company whose details have drifted, renew and amend together. For a company that is no longer trading, plan the cancellation rather than renewing by default.

    Common mistakes to avoid

    • Renewing the licence and forgetting the establishment card. The card is a separate ICP service. Without it, visas stop. ICP late fees run at AED 100 per month after 30 days, up to AED 1,000.
    • Letting the lease expire in the same week as the licence. TAMM needs an approved lease. Renew the lease first, and match its length to the licence period you want.
    • Paying without checking the Chamber category. The difference between commercial (AED 1,650) and professional (AED 2,000) or foreign branch (AED 2,200) is real money every year. Check the category before paying.
    • Carrying unused activities. Each activity past the sixth costs AED 100 per renewal and may trigger an external approval check.
    • Budgeting from Dubai numbers. Dubai DET does not publish a single renewal schedule, and Dubai quotes often include different items. Abu Dhabi's lines are published; use them.
    • Renewing with out-of-date partner or manager details. File the amendment with the renewal, then update ICP, the bank and the Federal Tax Authority.
    • Waiting until the expiry date. Start 30 to 45 days early. Most delays come from leases and approvals, not from the one working day TAMM takes.
    • Renewing a dormant company by habit. If the business has stopped trading, compare a few years of renewals with the cost of a proper cancellation.
    • Accepting a package price with no breakdown. Ask any consultant, including us, to show government fees at actual cost and the service fee as a separate line.

What Noble Core does for you

Noble Core Ventures is an independent private business setup consultancy, founded in 2020, with six offices in the UAE. We are not a government office and we cannot guarantee approvals, visas or bank decisions; what we do is prepare the file correctly, submit it through the authorised channels and follow it to the end.

For an Abu Dhabi mainland renewal, that means:

    • Checking the licence, lease, establishment card, visas, work permits and tax records in one review, so nothing expires behind the licence.
    • Flagging activities you no longer need and amendments that should go in with the renewal.
    • Preparing and submitting the TAMM renewal, then the ICP establishment card and visa renewals in the right order.
    • Showing every government fee at actual cost, with our service fee as a separate line, quoted after we have reviewed your licence.
    • Add-ons where you need them: VAT registration AED 500, corporate tax registration AED 400, a business bank account application with Mashreq Neo or Wio AED 800, and basic health insurance from AED 500 per person per year (we check the plan meets Abu Dhabi requirements before you buy).

If you are also considering a move, our guide to Abu Dhabi mainland setup costs and our overview of TAMM business services cover the wider picture, and our establishment card guide explains the ICP side in more depth. For the official renewal service, see TAMM, and for the federal card, ICP's Renewal of Establishment Card service. ADDED's licensing requirements page sets out the licence framework.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an Abu Dhabi trade license renewal cost in 2026?

TAMM lists AED 890 as the organisational entities fee for a commercial economic licence renewal, plus AED 10 licence renewal and AED 10 economic register renewal. On top sits the Abu Dhabi Chamber membership fee, which runs from AED 150 for craft activities to AED 2,200 for foreign branches. A typical commercial company pays about AED 2,560 in licence fees before its establishment card, lease and visas.

How long does it take to renew a trade licence in Abu Dhabi?

TAMM states one working day for the Renew Economic Licence (Commercial) service and two working days for the industrial licence renewal. That clock starts once a complete application is submitted through UAE PASS. Delays usually come from outside the service itself: an expired lease contract, a pending approval from a related entity, or unpaid fines on the establishment file.

Do I need a lease contract to renew my Abu Dhabi licence?

For most commercial licences, yes. TAMM asks for an approved lease contract and any related entities’ approvals. The page states the lease requirement varies by licence type and is not required for the Freelancer Licence, the Mobdea Licence, or the Tajer Abu Dhabi Licence during its first three years. If your lease runs for more than a year, the licence can be renewed for the matching period.

Can I renew an Abu Dhabi trade licence for more than one year?

Yes, within limits. TAMM says a commercial licence can be renewed for one year or more depending on licence type, lease validity and approved requirements. If the lease is valid for more than a year, the licence may be renewed for the permitted duration. Industrial licences in the production stage can be renewed for one, two or three years.

What is the late renewal fine for an Abu Dhabi trade licence?

The TAMM commercial renewal page does not publish a delay fee as a fixed line, so check the amount shown at application. The industrial renewal page does list delay fees of AED 200 per month. Separately, ICP charges AED 100 per month, capped at AED 1,000, when the establishment card is renewed more than 30 days after expiry.

What is the Abu Dhabi Chamber fee on renewal?

TAMM lists the Abu Dhabi Chamber membership fee by category: AED 150 for craft activities, AED 600 for branches, AED 1,650 for commercial, tourism, agricultural, livestock and fisheries activities, AED 2,000 for professional activities, and AED 2,200 for foreign branches. It is collected with the licence renewal, so most owners never see a separate Chamber invoice.

Does renewing the trade licence renew my establishment card?

No. The establishment card is issued by ICP, the federal identity and residency authority, and renewed through a separate ICP service. ICP lists AED 100 application, AED 100 per year, AED 1,000 for renewing the establishment subscription in its electronic system, and AED 100 smart service fee. ICP requires a valid trade licence first, so renew the licence, then the card.

Can Noble Core renew my Abu Dhabi licence for me?

Yes. We are an independent private business setup consultancy, not a government office. We check the licence, lease, establishment card, visas and tax records, prepare the application, submit it through the authorised channel and track it to the renewed licence. Government fees are paid at actual cost. Our service fee is quoted after we have reviewed your licence and what needs to change.

Is the Abu Dhabi renewal process the same for free zone companies?

No. This guide covers mainland licences issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development through TAMM. Free zone companies in ADGM, KEZAD, Masdar City, twofour54 or Hub71 renew with their own zone authority, under that zone’s fee schedule and portal. The ICP establishment card and FTA tax obligations still apply to them in much the same way.
